History of Chess
Chess has been played for more than a thousand years, and it has a rich history. The game first appeared in northern India in the sixth century AD. Since then, it has spread and developed into the current version that we are familiar with.
Rules & How to Play
On a square board with 64 alternating-color squares, chess is played. Each player has 16 pieces to work with at the start of the game, including a king, a queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, which occurs when the king is under check and cannot be removed from the threat of capture with a legal move by the opponent.
Strategies & Tips
- Use your pawns and pieces to control the centre of the board.
- Prior to developing your main pieces, work on your minor pieces (knights and bishops) (rooks and queen).
- Early in the game, castling will protect your king.
- Keep your pieces in pace and refrain from pointless piece exchanges.
- Put your attention on strategies like skewers, forks, and pins to beat your opponent.
